Driver of car which hit and killed 10th grader in Dhaka arrested

The driver of the car that struck and killed a tenth-grader in Mirpur ECB Chattar, Dhaka last night has been arrested by police.

Kazi Shahan Haque (officer-in-charge at Cantonment Police Station) said that Md Shakil was the driver of the private vehicle and was taken into custody around 11:30am today.

Police identified the deceased as Abul Kalam Azad Shanto (10th grader at Adamjee Cantonment Public Schools), they said.

After the victim was informed by police that the driver had been arrested, the victim's classmates and other locals blocked the street again.

"We discovered that some people were following the car because the driver was involved in an accident near by. Shanto tried stopping the car but the driver fled and hit Shanto, leaving him with serious injuries," Md Asaduzzaman (DC), deputy commissioner (DC), of Gulshan Division Police, said earlier.
